Biography

Ramón Villaplana Jiménez holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Murcia and a Master’s degree in Politics and Democracy from UNED. He is also specialised in Open Government from the University of La Laguna. In 2021, he won a Margarita Salas postdoctoral grant of the Spanish Ministry of Universities to develop the project “The transformations of political parties in the digital age” and was part of ESPOL until December 2023. He is now an Associate Research Fellow at ESPOL.

He has been Lecturer of Political Science at the University of Murcia between 2012-2021, also a freelance consultant and Vice-Dean of the Political Science and Sociology Professional Association of the Region of Murcia. He is co-author of the book Delitos Electorales e Integridad Electoral Comparada (2019) and co-editor of La influencia de la ideología en las campañas electorales. El caso de España (2015).

He is member of the editorial board of the political communication journal Más Poder Local, the public opinion research group CEMOP and the Digital Parties Research Network.
