Karisma

I’m Karisma from Malaysia and I am a first-year student in ESPOL Lille. Coming all the way from the other end of the world to study in France didn’t merely mean getting into a new education system but also to take a deep dive into a pond of new values, populated by people of diverse beliefs, whose voices would never be silenced in this realm of liberty. To have lived in both Malaysia and France wouldn’t imply that one is superior to the other; rather that these two worlds complement one another in driving my visions. Having said that, one molded my passions, while the other provided me with a platform to learn how to translate them into service to the people.

As daunting as these transitions might be, ESPOL empowers and motivates me into finding a purpose. Writing on behalf of ESPOL’s youth’s association of AMNESTY International grants me the medium through which I can advocate for great causes. As a member of the school journal, Canari, the launch of Canari Speaks English next year would mark a new beginning as this inaugurates another platform to channel my views in direction of a broader audience of students. Even though studies take precedence over most of everything else at this point of my life, these little opportunities to play my part in defending human rights and progressive causes as a political science student carve the trail I ought to chase in the years following the end of my tertiary studies. While I excitedly anticipate what the next two years hold for me, I thank all of you incredible ESPOLIENS for making me feel so welcomed in ESPOL and hope to see you around campus.
