Biography

Catherine Hoeffler obtained her PhD in Political Sciences in the Centre d’Etudes Européennes (CEE) (European Studies Center) of Sciences Po Paris in 2011. Her thesis research, entitled  « Les politiques d’armement en Europe : l’Adieu aux armes de l’État nation ? Une comparaison entre l’Allemagne, la France, le Royaume-Uni et l’Union européenne de 1976 à 2010 » (The armament policies in Europe : the Farewell to arms of the Nation-State ? A comparison between Germany, France, United Kingdom and the European Union from 1976 to 2010 »  question in a compared manner the redefining of the role of the State in the regulation of the armament sector as an answer to the process of liberalization and European integration. After two postdoctorate positions effected on the transatlantic links in respect of defense (CEPEL, Université de Montpellier; CERIUM, Université de Montréal), she joined ESPOL in September 2013 where she directs the Global and European Politics master’s degree. Her current researches focus on the austerity in the defense and the redefining of the role of the European Union in the political economy of security.
