Panel discussion “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Transformative Change through Sustainable Development Goals?”
In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to guide public policies at all levels and inspire societal actors to promote sustainable development worldwide. At the core of this new international program are 17 Sustainable Development Goals with 169 specific targets. The adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs represents a milestone in global governance to guide the major transformation of world society towards sustainability.
In this panel discussion, we will assess the effects of this key initiative of the United Nations and discuss whether and to what extent the Sustainable Development Goals have led to transformative change in governance and politics, from local to global levels.
The panel participants are Marianne Beisheim (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik), Frank Biermann (Utrecht University), Basil Bornemann (University of Basel), Franziska Müller (University of Hamburg) and Sabine Weiland (ESPOL, Catholic University Lille). The panel discussion takes place at the Congress of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) on 16 September (online).
